Open Web Podcast
Dion Almaer of Ajaxian.com, along with Javascript idols Alex Russell and John Resig, respectively of the Dojo toolkit and jQuery Javascript libraries have convened on a new Open Web Podcast.
Dion announced episode #1 of the Open Web Podcast on 8-8-08 via ajaxian, and summarized the discussion. Both John and Alex provided quick briefs with each's own take on the Open Web:
John discusses the decentralization and new openness that we see across the Web. Alex was a little more wary, and talks about how he wants the Open Web to progress faster. He noted that a lot of the good work has been a little away from the client, and instead in the area of identity, transport, and formats.
A follower of Alex's Dojo blog posts, I've long admired his discerning nature as that project's [former] lead. A lot of the respect and enthusiasm I originally developed toward the Dojo toolkit spawned just from digesting his thought process as that framework matured from the early days into a rich and robust 1.0 release, and beyond.
The trio covers much ground in episode #1. They chew on some of the juicier HTML 5 topics from the WHAT Working Group and the W3C. Of particular note, the Javascript demigods discuss the impact that the CSS Selectors API will have on the Javascript frameworks... greater performance from smaller codebases will come from the next wave of major web browsers. About this name-scoped CSS, Dion writes:
This could be huge, especially if you have an application such as a CMS, where people upload their own content that can mess with your application structure itself.
A CMS, like Drupal! If you've got a strong intuition that all this Open Web buzz is significant and can help you grow your own business... you are correct! If you aren't quite sure what to do about it, get in touch with us, and get WEBJAX'd! today.
